Paint Your Garage Floor Today!

Here’s what you need to know to make the right choices:

Choosing the right paint for your garage floor doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Depending on your location, expected foot or vehicle traffic, and budget, there’s a paint product perfectly suited for your needs.

Why Paint Your Garage Floor?

You may have overlooked the task of finishing the flooring of your garage or it may be time for a replacement. Your shinny new car just does not seem to have the right flooring to match. Adding a new floor paint can transform dull concrete floors to a more vibrant and appealing environment.

Choosing the right floor paint for your garage is important not only for aesthetic reasons. The right paint can also provide lasting protection against the elements such as sun exposure, water, mildew and even chemical spills.

Safety and easy maintenance. The right floor paint may also improve safety from slipping and tripping from uneven floor finish. As an added bonus, clean up is a cinch with easy mopping with most floor paint surfaces!

There are a number of floor paint options available in market today. They vary in chemical composition, application procedures and of course, costs. Knowing and choosing the right paint product that is perfect for your requirement may just be the first and most important step in ensuring you have that perfect floor you can enjoy for years to come.

Tiles

Our traditional favorite flooring option. Comes in a multitude of colors, designs and material composition.

Epoxy

Two-component epoxy-based floor coating. Durable, highly rated against chemicals. Not UV resistant.

Rubberized

One component easy-to-apply solvent-based and rubber based. UV and abrasion resistant. Great for outdoor sport applications.

Water-based Acrylics

Acrylic paints are water-based and come in a variety of colors and finishes. They are very versatile and ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. Acrylic paint for painting concrete adheres well to concrete and is resistant to fading, making it an excellent choice for surfaces exposed to sunlight. Additionally, they dry quickly, allowing for faster project completion.

Epoxy

Epoxy based floor coatings provide the utmost protection of indoor concrete floors in heavy duty areas such as indoor parking areas, warehouses and many more. These two-component self levelling heavy duty epoxies are generally designed for excellent resistance against impact and chemical spillage such as motor oils and other acids. They are however not UV resistant and are not advisable to use outdoors. They also come with a higher cost and may require more skilled and professional installation.

A-Plus Floor Guard® 100% Solids and Self-Levelling Epoxy Floor Coating is a premium example of such an application.

Rubberized

For superior outdoor durability and extreme abrasion resistance, you can choose a solvent based chlorinated rubber based floor coating such as A-Plus Floor Master® Chlorinated Rubber Based Floor Coating. This is easier to use as it is basically one component and very straight forward to apply. More importantly, it is ideal for outdoor applications as they are UV resistant unlike its epoxy based counterpart. It can also withstand abrasion, water and chemical spills and is perfect for exposed outdoor sports applications. Comparatively though, epoxy based coatings are more rated for chemical exposure such as laboratories, oil spills or even frequent animal waste exposure such as kennels. But at a cost of course.

Polyurethane

Polyurethane floor coatings much like their epoxy based brothers are also two component solvent based floor coatings known for superior durability and extreme abrasion and chemical resistance. They are relatively easy to apply and cures fast to a non-slip glossy film that can withstand abrasion, water, chemicals, and UV exposure. It is the choice of paint best used for parking flooring where frequent exposure to chemicals and high friction occurs.

A-Plus Floor Shield® High-Build 2k Polyurethane Parking Floor Coating is a premium example of such an application.

Water-based Acrylics

Water-based acrylics are cheaper and easy to apply but in terms of durability, solvent based floor paints may last you longer specially if you are expecting a lot of foot or vehicular traffic.

Location

Where your garage is located and if is exposed to sunlight is of outmost importance in choosing the right paint for the job. Epoxy based paint are more durable but if your garage is open to sun exposure even if it has a roof, this may not be your best choice. Go for a rubber-based floor coating such as A-Plus Floor Master® Chlorinated Rubber Based Floor Coating.

DIY or Contractor?

Rubber-based one component are generally easier to apply when you want to do a DIY execution. Two-component epoxies are easy to apply also as they only require a one-step one-coat application. They may however require more stringent concrete preparation for the novice DIY painter.

Cost

Comparatively, epoxy based coatings are rated higher for chemical exposure. They are also more durable and will last longer. However, the relative cost may be over 2x vs their rubber-based one component counterpart.

📌 In Summary

    • For partially open garages or if you want a durable, DIY-friendly, and affordable option: A Plus Floor Master® Chlorinated Rubber-Based Floor Coating
